Steamed Custard Buns (Gooey Style)

These steamed custard buns have a gooey filling, which means the texture is creamy, soft, and fluent. The buns are light and fluffy. It is so satisfying when you take a bite.

  • I have tried this recipe and absolutely love it. The only thing is that I can’t seem to make the filling melleable even after following the recipe and putting the mix in the fridge! It’s creamy and not dense enough to be able to handle with hands. Could I have a suggestion on how I can make the filling like that? Please let me know! Thank you! Love what you do!

  • Hi Mandy – I just made this recipe using a different filling. Thank you SO much for explaining the steps and why kneading out the air bubbles yields smoother bun. For YEARS, I have been struggling with steamed buns either collapsing or not proofing correctly. I finally came across a video of yours and so grateful. My first batch of steamed buns using your recipe was a success!

    Thank you thank you!
