What are the dimensions and capacity?
Our clay pot measures 11.5" wide and 8" tall, with a 4.8 quart / 5.28 liter capacity.
What is a clay pot?
A clay pot is typically made of unglazed clay or ceramic material and is usually rounded in shape. Known for distributing heat evenly and efficiently, they are typically used for slow-cooking, simmering and stewing. The porous clay material enables excellent heat retention, resulting in tender meats and bursting flavors. Famous dishes that use it include "Clay Pot Rice" and "Clay Pot Tofu."
Will it crack?
Our clay pot is built to withstand high temperatures for long periods. It is durable and will not crack under normal use. If there is ever a performance issue, let us know and we will provide a replacement. Please note the lid is made of a different material and does carry a risk of thermal shock (extreme hot to cold causing it to break).
How is this different from other Asian clay pots?
Many clay pots are unglazed or only glazed on the inside, and depending on the clay and glaze used, can risk leaching heavy metals into your food. We use only the best materials and test our products to ensure there are no heavy metals or dangerous chemicals. Most others are also sized for a single small portion; ours is the size of a typical Dutch oven, so you get the benefits of clay pot cooking for larger meals.
